Matrix Rats Rattery

Colorado & New Mexico's Fancy Rat Breeder.

Rainbow Bridge

After breeding many rats over the years, I thought it would be a good idea to post my most memorial rats here that have passed on to the next life. These are rats that have touched my spirit and soul, They were very special to me and have laid down the foundation to most of my lines still being bred today.

OERR Dalouhous

Blue Point Siamese Dumbo

OERR Dalouhous, HMM there is only one word that will truly describe what this rat was and that word would be "AWESOME". Dalouhous was an only child! His mom gave birth to him and only him, in a very weird twist I bred his mom who was a Silver Russian hooded Siamese to a blue point Siamese self. Mom being Dumbo and dad being standard, any breeder will tell you getting a Dumbo baby would have been 1 in a 100. Kind of like the lottery a very very lucky draw. Will I had put his mom with this stud for over a month, she didn't look preggos so i stuck his mom back in with the colony. Several weeks want by and then I heard squeaking, I was shocked to see a small pinkie in the girls colony, and being that his mom was the only rat bred at the time I knew she was the mom. The only bad thing about her having just one baby is that she never lactated!, So I had to put the pinkie in with a doe who was already 2 weeks along with her babies. So Dalouhous was raised by another female, His mom passed several months later due to mammary cancer, which probably explained why she never lactated. Dalouhous was a big boy who loved to get his belly rubbed, and loved to play with your hands. He was the most beautiful Siamese I ever came across. And he has shown this wonderful temperament and awesome show quality in the offspring he gave me. All the Siamese rats in my rattery are offspring or descendants from this wonderful boy. All show quality and playful. I miss him dearly.  Dalouhous died of an upper-respiratory infection in 2006 at 1 and half years. He is the main reason I don't do rescues no more. I believe that when I brought in several rescues one infected several of my rats, I lost 4 other rats at the same time I lost Dalouhous. And it hit me very close to home in my heart. He was very special to me.

MRR/us SallieMea
Black Lightening Blaze Dalmatian

What can I say about SallieMae, Will she was the sweetest rat that knew how to show it. She was the first female to jump out of the cage and sprinkle your face with kisses, She gave me 2 wonderful litters, that were the best from the best. SallieMae passed due to heat exhaustion and i'm deeply hurt by this since I was trying very hard to keep my rattery at a good 75 degrees, but on Wednesday it was a 101 outside making my small A/C unit work over time and therefor the rattery want to a high of 96 degrees, which caused many of my rats to play dead and not move due to the sear amount of heat in the room, but when it came to make sure everyone was okay , Sallie just gave me one deep sigh and passed peacefully. Sallie was truly one of a kind and her legacy will live on in her little baby girl MRR/us Fashion and MRR/us Qwest.

MRR/us Mynx

 Black Self Satin Rex D/C
I'm very sad to have lost the one rat that truely made me smile on a daily bases. Mynx had a personnilty like a human she was very smart and also the Alpha female in my colony. Her lose is going to be missed by all of her cage mates. She died way  before her time, and is the case is of yet unknown.  She was found curled up in a ball in her favorite hut. So I'm going to guess she passed away peacefully and didn't suffer. She was always on the small side, but her personnilty made her the biggest rat I ever owned.. I will miss you my little fuff girl

SRCO Lighter Fusion
Black Hooded TriColor Female
SRCO Lighter Fusion was the only Tricolored rat born in Colorado in late winter of 2002, she was a surprise to say the least, her mom was a agouti self, and her dad was a black hooded hairless. And when the babies from that litter started getting their fur and coloring I was shocked to see three clear colors on her. She was a standard black hooded rattie, with a beige spot right where the hood get's long  along the back. Even though with many attempts of breeding, Fusion never reproduced tricolored babies in any of her litters. Fusion produced wonderful babies, many of which ended up as breeding stock to different breeders here in Co, and another breeder in Wyoming. None of her offspring ever produced the Tricolor either. Fusion died in late summer of 2005 at 3 years of age. She was a very special rat and I will always miss her special charm and playfulness she was truly my favorite of all times.

MRR/us Prada
Black Panda Dalmatian D/C

Oh my Prada, She was the best of all my dalmatians so far, she had the personality of a cuddle bug, the kissiness of a puppy and just all the passion of being the best pet she could be.. Prada was born deaf unfortunately so I never bred her so her little line will no longer live with her passing, but she had such a kind heart and was my best rat for letting kids play and hold her.. She never did anything but lick them to death.. I will truly miss this sweet, sweet little girl. Prada was put down today, she had gotten a stroke which caused her right left inner ear to bust, Meaning the poor thing was paralyzed from the neck down. And she would have died eventually ,but i'm not in the believe of letting animals suffer so she was rushed to the vet this morning at 8am to be humanly euthanized. I will truly miss this sweet little girl.

MRR/us Fashion
Black Dalmatian

I was pretty shocked today, when I want to feed and water everyone and found that the girls had totally destroyed my Fashion girl, I don't know why they decided to kill her and it's a mystery to me..All the girls in the colony were pretty much attached to the hip and they always slept together, and did mutual grooming. The only thing I can figure is that one of the girls got a little to aggressive over night and wanted to fight for a higher rank in the pecking order, and  it want a little to far.. I'm very upset to have lost Fashion in such a horrible manner. She will be dearly missed. She was a very playful, kissy girl that came when you called her name. It will truly be a hard thing to find a rat to replace her charm and energetic personality.

The Poem

The Rainbow Bridge

Arthur "Unknown"

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
